Most people would draw Pokemon. Or gestures, or the city. Instead: wildly stylized, vaguely mythological figures twisting across the page, of course. He's in a terribly casual artistic mood, worse than when he fills whole pages with fashion. Mostly, though, he's just people-watching, Togepi having tucked itself against the crook of his arm.
He is the absolute picture of "doing nothing of value to Union society." ]

Don't you ever get bored?
no subject
Sometimes, sure. [ He raises his eyebrows. ] Next one'll be in color.
[ Good afternoon to you too, Josh. ]
no subject
My goodness. You sure your heart can take the shock, old man?
no subject
I'd go one further and let you take a look, collaborate, maybe, but I get testy when my things catch on fire. You got a better idea for our time? [ seriously Joshua he doesn't put an accident past you. In the most loving way. ]

What, better things to do for two Enlightened members of society with powers normal humans can't possibly comprehend other than drink coffee and doodle aimlessly? I just might.

Fight for our lives in the wilderness? Play tricks on the locals? If you want me to be a training dummy, you'd better ask nice.

[He leans forward, his eyes sharp.] Come on, Sanae. Even you can't be satisfied with just staying in this boring little town for the rest of your life. You're going to run out of things to draw sooner or later.
no subject
[ But he looks interested. Not agreeing to anything, thanks. But interested. ]
So, what? You want to head out just to see the sights? I'd be upset if you got eaten for boredom's sake, you know.
no subject
I want to actually do something. What do we have to look forward to here, getting married and churning out babies and wasting away in some dull job until some rampaging Pokemon breaks through and eats us anyway? Please. I'd rather go out with a bang than live forever doing nothing.

I like the people. There's plenty to learn here, from the Old City and the current one too. But I can see you're not feelin' that.
[ But. He sips his coffee, gestures at Josh with the nearly-empty cup. ]
I have wondered what you could find if you got out far enough. More ruins, at least.
no subject
Mmm. And do you plan on just wondering for the rest of your life?
no subject
[ Fair points, both, really. It's not like this is the first time he's heard the encouragement.
Might be the first time he's had a solid reason to go. ]
All right. If you go charging off into the wilderness, I'll tag along. [ He nudges the Togepi, whose little five-pointed head pokes out from the shell. ] Spikes here, too. We'll be your backup.
[ don't they just look the picture of badassery ]
no subject
Yes, and what fine backup you'll be I'm sure. I'm still washing my clothes off from the last time your...Spikes metronomed its way into a Mud Sport.
no subject
[ Sanae no that's not reassuring ]
I'll hear your thoughts on Metronome after he saves our asses with it.

In the meantime, seeing as how I'm certainly not going to expend enough effort to build up a sweat, it looks like our only means of defense is a tiny soul-stealing candle. [The Litwick's flame puffs up with pride and Joshua immediately begins cooing at it.] Why yes, of course you can eat all the souls of anyone who stands against us you want.
no subject
Hey, now, I'm gonna have to disapprove of soul-eating. Like you said-- powers humans can't possibly comprehend, right? We'll figure out how to hold our own.
[ don't you feel so confident that you won't be eaten, Josh ]
no subject
[He hugs the Litwick close to him and they both give Sanae identical wide-eyed stares of innocence.] Besides, you wouldn't want my poor little Litwick to starve to death, would you? How cruel.
no subject
Oh, sure. I wouldn't want to be cruel.
[ The poor Tyranitars. ]
Well, since you don't want to break a sweat, I'd better start training. [ It... could happen... ]
no subject
Is that what they're calling lazing about drinking coffee these days?
no subject
[ He sounds kind of actually wistful. How many beans can a traveling pack hold, this is the ultimate question of Sanae's existence. ]
